-1993: Internet Talk Radio is developed by Carl Malamud using MBONE encoding technology. Also that year: The Austin, Texas Arts Bulletin Board System begins broadcasting information about the arts as well as interviews and news to the Austin area.
-1994: WXYC (89.3 FM Chapel Hill, NC) begins announcing the broadcast of select portions of their regular radio programming over the internet. Also that year: Voice of America, a broadcasting arm of the United States Government becomes the first internet radio station with continuously updated programming.
-1995: KJHK (Lawrence, KS) becomes the first internet radio station with a continuous, live signal. Radio HK, an independent music station also becomes the first full-time internet only radio station that year, operating out of Marina del Ray, CA.
-1996: In March of that year, Virgin Radio becomes the first internet radio station in the United Kingdom.
-1998: Internet radio comes to Australia in the form of NetFM on November 11.
-By the turn of the millennium, the technology that produces radio stations becomes affordable and easy to operate, clearing the way for the many internet radio stations that broadcast today from college campuses, terrestrial radio stations and independent operators.
